The Long Island Ravens M.C. is an organization of gay men:
 | who strive to further strengthen the image of the leather
lifestyle on Long Island; and |
 | who offer friendship and support to each other and
others like themselves in a positive association. |
The Club recognizes that this brotherhood consists of individuals who are
able to maintain their individuality and personality. We therefore embrace a
wide diversity of expression of our sexuality and lifestyles. We believe in the
self worth of the individual and offer to our membership an extended family.
 | We offer brotherhood and support to each other. |
 | We affiliate with other leather clubs throughout the
nation and the world. |
 | We sponsor "runs" and social activities. |
 | We contribute to the overall gay community with
service. |
 | We raise money for AIDS support as well as other
charities supportive of the gay community. |
 | We sponsor a bagpipe and drum marching band. |
Wearing the Long Island Ravens M. C. Patch is a privilege to be worn with
pride. It is not a collector's item, but a symbol of our association and
involvement in a fraternity committed to presenting a positive image of the gay
leather community. It is a symbol of our commitment to the spirit of
brotherhood and service it represents. The patch always remains the
property of the Club, and is returned should we leave the Club.
There are two classes of members --
Brothers and
Associate
Brothers
We are proud to be Leathermen on Long Island!
It is therefore the policy of the Long Island Ravens MC to
publish the full name, email address (if appropriate) and pictures of
the the brothers in our publications -- including our web pages,
journal, newsletters, and newspaper articles. If there is any
reason that your full name should not be published, you are
responsible for informing us (specifically, the Secretary), with a
explanation -- we understand in today's homophobic society there may
be sound reasons in specific cases for you not being public, and we
will use a pseudonym you chose.

As a Brother you are one of the full members of the Long Island Ravens M. C.
You have voting privileges, and you are expected to
actively support Club activities and events. Our expectations are that:
 | You will
attend and assist in monthly meetings, our club nights and other charity fund
raising events. |
 | You will attend and assist at Club-sponsored runs,
anniversaries, or other events. |
 | You will participate in out-of town runs with other
like-minded clubs to the extent your schedule allows. |
 | You will "share the story" of the Long
Island Ravens M. C., as you are an ambassador of the Club and the Leather
community. |
 | You will meet the standards of conduct required for Brothers
of the Club. |
We strive to be brothers to each other. You are expected to be understanding
and supportive of your brothers — to defend them from malicious gossip and
harmful accusations, to keep their confidences private, and to work toward
harmonious interpersonal relationships.
Steps to Becoming a full Brother ...
The following is a brief summary of the steps to
full membership --
 |
Qualifications
|
Membership in the Long Island Ravens MC is open to any gay man living on
Long Island (Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk) over the age of
21 years who is proud to make a
Leather lifestyle an important part of their life, and who
can make the time commitment to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a
Brother of the Club.
 |
Application Process
|
An individual seeking to become a Brother should complete
an
application and
return it to: Long Island Ravens M.C., c/o L.I. Eagle, 94 N. Clinton Ave.,
Bay Shore, NY 11706.
 |
Sponsorship
|
While not a formal requirement, you should have the
sponsorship of at least one current Brother prior to the first vote on your
membership. It is therefore very helpful to have gotten to know some of
the Brothers by attending Club functions and Bar Nights. You may also attend any of our open General
Meetings — see our
calendar
for schedule.
 |
Candidates Committee
|
All candidates for Brother are reviewed by the Candidates Committee.
This committee will contact you for an informal question and answer session.
Please feel free to discuss any questions you may have about the Club with them
at that meeting — or with any other Club member.
 |
First Brothers' Vote
The Candidate Review Committee will discuss their
recommendation at a Brothers' meeting. The Brothers will
vote on whether you are welcomed as a Pledge.
|
 |
Pledge Period
|
Prior to becoming a Brother, you will be required to participate in a six
month pledge period. During this Pledge period you will get to know more
about us and we will get to know more about you. During this pledge period
there is formal classroom work and participation in the Club's activities.
There is no "hazing" during the Pledge period.
 |
Second Brothers' Vote
|
At the end of your Pledge Period, a second ballot is taken to determine
admittance as a full Brother. In order to be accepted, you cannot
receive more than two negative votes.
 |
Dues
|
Full Brother dues are currently $10 per month, $5 per month during your
pledge period. When you are initiated and graduated as a full Brother, you
are required to purchase your LI Ravens Dress uniform at a cost of about $80.

An Associate Brother is a supporter of the ideals, purposes, and
lifestyles of the Club. Associate Brothers are members-at-large.
You are expected to represent the Long Island Ravens M. C. and to
support the Club as much as your schedule and proximity to our events
will reasonably permit. Associate Brothers are normally members of
another back-patch leather club, although local individuals who are well
known to us but are unable to participate as full Brothers may also be
considered for this class of membership. As an Associate Brother,
our expectations are that:
 | You will attend and participate in our bar
nights and other charity fund raising events whenever possible. |
 | You will attend and assist at Club-sponsored
runs, anniversaries, or other events whenever possible. |
 | You will attend each year at least one Long
Island Ravens M. C. sponsored function. This applies to all
Associate Brothers within a 250-mile drive to Bay Shore, NY. If you
reside outside this area, you are expected to attend our three-day
Anniversary Weekend. |
 | You will "share the story" of the Long
Island Ravens M. C., as you are an ambassador of the Club and the
Leather community. |
 | You will meet the same standards of conduct as required of Brothers
of the Club |
Qualifications
 | Associate membership will be considered for those who hold membership in a
like-minded back-patch leather club. |
 | Associate membership will also be considered for any gay man over the age
of 21 years who wishes to be officially connected with the Club, but
who is unable to fulfill all the obligations required of full
brothers. Normally, applicants should be well known to us,
including their reasons for being unable to participate as full
Brothers. Associate Brothers have the responsibility of supporting
Club functions and fund-raising events to the fullest extent
possible. |
Application Process
An individual seeking to become an Associate
Brother should
complete
an application and return it to
the Long Island Ravens M.C., c/o L.I. Eagle, 94 N. Clinton Ave., Bay
Shore, NY 11706.
While not a formal requirement, you should
get the sponsorship of at least one current full Brother when you
submit your application.
(If you don't hear from us within about four weeks,
please send us a note -- as a volunteer membership organization, sometimes mail
gets misdirected.)
Dues
Associate Brother dues are currently $24 per year. They are
payable immediately on being notified of your acceptance by the
Brothers.
Membership Vote
A vote by the Brothers of the Club is required to
become an Associate Brother.
